Following the success of last year’s debut, Funtana will once again open the doors to its past this Saturday, July 25th. The second edition of PEŠKALUNA will take place at Perila, starting at 8 PM. This unique cultural and interpretive program takes visitors back to a time when life in Funtana was shaped by the sea, fishing, and inexhaustible springs of fresh water, all brought to life through authentic displays, traditional games, music, and local gastronomy.
This year’s Peškaluna will once again breathe life into Perila—a place that for centuries was much more than just a water source. It was here that generations of Funtana women gathered to wash laundry, exchange news, and build community, while fishermen set out to sea daily, returning with the catch that sustained their families.
Throughout the evening, visitors will be able to experience a variety of activities inspired by life at the beginning of the 20th century. The women’s association “Loza” will demonstrate how laundry used to be washed at Perila, while traditional children’s games will serve as a reminder of a time when the street was the ultimate playground. The program will also feature the “La Contrada” choir from the Italian Community, while fishermen’s tales and the stage performance “The Fisherman and His Grumbling” will revive the humor and daily routine of Funtana’s fishermen.
Peškaluna is an event that invites participation. Its name is a blend of the local term “peška” (meaning fishing) and the word “luna” (moon), evoking the image of a fishing village bathed in moonlight. Visitors will have the opportunity to see how fishing nets were mended and woven—a skill that was an integral part of every fisherman’s life for centuries—as well as discover a range of traditional crafts that marked the daily life of this region.
In addition to net weaving, attendees can watch demonstrations of handmade papermaking, spinning wool on a distaff, or weaving willow baskets. Meanwhile, fans of old card games will have the chance to play briškula or trešete, just like in the old days.
The evening will be further enriched by Franketo the Clown and the stilt walkers from the Retrox group, an attractive performance by SvilArt Aerial – Air & Flame, and the Merkatino market, where visitors can taste homemade specialties, buy local products, and enjoy a rich catering offer.
The program will also be complemented by the Kraineri band, whose accordions, trumpet, and guitar are an essential part of any authentic local feast. To wrap up the evening, the organizers are preparing a dance party—an open invitation for all generations to dance to timeless international and local hits performed by David Danijel.
